COVER STORY Molecular Imaging and Polymer |
Imaging technologies, which can visualize a particular molecule or its function, have received much attention in life sciences. Especially, in vivo imaging is a crucial technology in the areas of recent medical and pharmaceutical research and diagnostics, because the technique makes evaluation of target molecules possible in a whole living body. Although many methods such as PET, SPECT, CT and MRI have already been in practical use, other new technologies, which can visualize more detailed information, will be required. For this purpose, development of new contrast agents would be one of the most important issues. In this context, use of polymer materials for such contrast agents will open up new possibilities in this field. This special issue will introduce many types of polymeric contrast agents and their designs and applications.
