COVER STORY “Intelligent” Stimuli-Responsive Water Soluble Polymers |
Various kinds of stimuli-responsive water soluble polymers have been designed and prepared for some time now. External stimuli trigger changes in the physical and associative properties of the polymers. Such stimuli include temperature, pH, light, magnetic or electric fields, salinity, or the presence of specific chemicals. Recent developments in polymer design and synthesis methods have made it possible to prepare novel water-soluble polymers that show not only responsive behavior to a single stimulus but are capable of complex responses to multiple stimuli. Numerous such stimuli-responsive ‘intelligent’ polymers have now been created. In this issue, we introduce the development of recent stimuli-responsive water-soluble polymers.
