COVER STORY Presence of Walls |
When a material contacts with a different one, an interface is formed. For mobile small molecules or polymer chains, the solid interface behaves like a “wall”. Such walls exist in polymer composite materials and significantly alter the aggregation states and physical properties for the molecules near the walls. Among many polymer composite materials, we focus on polymer electrolyte fuel cells as one of the typical examples including many walls in the materials. In this edition, the impacts of walls on the behavior of small molecules such as water and ions as well as polyelectrolytes are overviewed. Editors: KAWAGUCHI, UNEYAMA, KASHIDA, and MITSUISHI |
