COVER STORY Polymers for Modern Medical Treatment |
There is no doubt that the dramatic increase of life expectancy in modern society has been supported by the development of advanced healthcare. Like the ubiquity of plastics in everyday life, medical devices increasingly utilize polymeric materials, from basic to cutting-edge instruments. Medical tools directly interface with the human body, which necessitates specific requirements regarding safety and functionality. This plays an important, but often overlooked, role in materials design and characterization. In this special feature, we will focus on the requirements and difficulties of using polymeric materials in modern medical treatment.
