COVER STORY Life-Like Matter |
The difference between life and matter has attracted researchers’ interests for a long time. Understanding the mechanisms behind sophisticated functional systems of life and mimicking them by using artificial matter are expected to yield new functional materials. In addition, such a research direction may eventually lead to the answer to the question “What is life?” This special issue shows recent progress in the efforts to create “life-like matter” such as self-healing materials, actuators, soft matter, etc. Editors: SUGIYASU, D. SUZUKI, MITOMO, and YAMAGUCHI |
