The Secret of The Koubunshi Mirai Juku® in the Hot Water Supply Room |
The Mirai Juku website was launched in September 2015 to coincide with the 64th Symposium on Macromolecules. How did this original initiative of the Society of Polymer Science, Japan (SPSJ), which matches the new normal era, get started ? Well, well, well... I can hear some happy talk coming from the hot water supply room of the Mirai Juku ! Keywords: Miraijuku / Company Visit Interviews / Moving LAB |

Polymer Science and I: A Personal Account |
One and Only | Masami SHINDO |
I found it difficult to see my research in the company as “One and Only” until I became to realize that the patents I wrote were exactly that. Now I can be confident with my research being “One and Only” and will always be proud of my work. |

Precise Examination of Crystalline Polymers Using Chip Sensor Fast Scanning Calorimetry | Akihiko TODA |
In this review, recent advances in the application of chip sensor fast scanning calorimetry (FSC) to crystalline polymers are discussed. FSC uses fast heating and cooling at several thousand Kelvins per second to offer quantitative and accurate thermal analysis. Due to the metastability of the chain-folded long-chain polymer molecules, the mechanisms of structure formation of crystalline polymers and the melting, as well as the reverse process, become quite complicated. These include the folded-chain crystallization, the constraint of an amorphous fraction upon crystallization, and the progress of several different processes upon heating toward melting, such as crystallization, re-organization, and the melting-recrystallization-remelting cycle. These phenomena are difficult to investigate using standard calorimetry in a controlled experimental condition. FSC is an ideal instrument for this purpose.
