New Developments in Polymer Reaction: from Precision Control to Material Design
Polymer reaction, in which a main chain, side chain, or terminal group of polymers takes part, can modify the polymer structures and properties by changing the degree of polymerization, introducing substituent groups, or hybridizing with other molecules to give a novel property and/or function to the polymers. It has traditionally been applied to natural polymers or conventional synthetic polymers to modify the side chains and has generated many industrially important polymeric materials. Furthermore, recent years have witnessed various precision modifications and structural transformations based on high-yield and high-selective click reactions and novel developments of optoelectronic and other polymeric materials based on designed degradation reactions. This special issue covers recent developments in polymer reaction, ranging from precision control to material design, which can “change polymers”.
