COVER STORY Polymers with Unique Structures as Biofunctional Materials |
Polymers possessing unique or supra-molecular structures,
such as dendrimers and rotaxanes, exhibit unusual properties that conventional
linear polymers do not show. Therefore, many attempts have been made to
develop functional materials based on unique shapes and structures of
the polymers for application in various fields. This special issue focuses
on the bio-related functions derived from unusual properties of the polymers
with unique structures. We present current topics of research about polymers
with unique structures and discuss their prospect as functional materials
in the biomedical fields. We would like to highlight the importance of
the unique or supra-molecular structures for the development of new functional
polymeric materials.
