Glass Transition and Aging Dynamics in Thin Polymer Films Investigated by Dielectric Measurements | Koji FUKAO |
<Abstract>
Dielectric relaxation spectroscopy is a powerful tool for investigation
of the slow dynamics of polymers including the glass transition dynamics.
In this paper, we show recent developments of dielectric studies on the
glass transition dynamics in thin polymer films and also of the aging
dynamics of polymer glasses. Keywords: Dielectric Relaxation Spectroscopy / Thin Polymer Films / Glass Transitions / Aging Dynamics / Memory and Rejuvenation Effects |

Study of Dynamics Using X-Ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy | Yuya SHINOHARA |
X-ray
Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS) is a method investigating the dynamics
of a system by measuring the fluctuation of scattered intensity. In this
article, the principle of XPCS and its application are briefly described. Keywords: X-Ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy / Dynamics |

Studies on Dynamics in Polysaccharide Solution Using NMR | Shingo MATSUKAWA |
The
relationship between molecular motion and the information obtained by
the NMR relaxation measurements and the gradient NMR measurement is explicated,
and studies on polysaccharide motion in solution using these measurements
are reviewed. This study indicates that measuring the diffusion coefficient
for a probe polymer is useful for the estimation of the mesh size and
studies on the dynamics of structural change in polysaccharide gels. Keywords: NMR Relaxation / Gradient NMR / Molecular Motion / Polysaccharide / Gel Network / Mesh Size |

Theory and Simulation of Dynamics of Associating Polymers | Tsuyoshi KOGA and Fumihiko TANAKA |
Hydrophobically
modified water-soluble polymers (associating polymers) show characteristic
rheological properties such as shear thickening. This article reviews
recent developments in the study on the molecular origin of such rheological
properties by using a transient network theory and a molecular dynamics
simulation. Keywords: Associating Polymer / Rheology / Transient Network Theory / Molecular Dynamics Simulation / Shear Thickening / Normal Stress Effect / Stress Growth / Shear Banding |

Detection of Inter-Polymer Association by Rheological Measurements | Osamu URAKAWA |
Based
on the rheological data, the formation of inter-molecular aggregation
was examined in hydrogen bonding polymer systems. In this article two
specific examples for the rheological detection of the inter-molecular
association are presented : (1) random copolymers of vinyl acetate and
vinyl alcohol (P(VAc-VOH)), and (2) miscible blends of P(VAc-VOH)/poly(ethylene
oxide). Keywords: Rheology / Hydrogen Bond / Rouse Model / Miscible Polymer Blend / Aggregate |

Dynamics of Soft Matter Studied by Neutron Spin Echo Technique | Hitoshi ENDO |
Neutron
spin echo (NSE) technique is a quite unique and advanced method to study
soft matter dynamics. In this manuscript, NSE technique and its applications
are briefly reviewed. Then, the Japanese NSE spectrometer iNSE is portrayed.
Finally, the future prospects of NSE in Japan are described. Keywords: Soft Matter Dynamics / Neutron Spin Echo / Neutron Scattering |

Dynamics of Biomolecules Studied by Neutron Inelastic Scattering | Hiroshi NAKAGAWA and Mikio KATAOKA |
Neutron
inelastic scattering is one of the most powerful techniques to observe
the dynamics of biomolecules and hydration water. The next-generation
neutron source, J-PARC constructed in Ibaraki, will be promising for dynamics
studies of biomolecules. Keywords: Neutron Inelastic Scattering / Protein Dynamics |

ESR Spin-Label Study on Polymer Dynamics | Yohei MIWA and Katsuhiro YAMAMOTO |
The
ESR spin-label method has been used for studies on molecular dynamics
in polymers. Advanced computer simulation for the dynamics and a novel
technique (microwave power saturation method) for determination of Tg
by ESR are introduced here. These techniques reveal the polymer dynamics
at the specific sites and in specific environments. Keywords: Electron Spin Resonance / Spin-Label / Chain End / Local Dynamics / Power Saturation Method |

Molecular Theory of Rheology of Entangled Polymers | Takashi UNEYAMA |
Entangled
polymeric systems, which consist of polymers with high polymerization
degrees, show characteristic rheological properties. Rheological properties
of entangled polymers have been studied by using molecular models such
as the tube model. We review the fundamental molecular theory of entangled
polymers and recent related topics. Keywords: Rheology / Entanglement / Molecular Theory / Tube Model |
