COVER STORY Polymer Materials Based on Host-Guest Interactions |
In recent years, owing to the remarkable advancements in supramolecular chemistry,
novel functional polymeric materials can be created using host-guest
interactions. Originally, this host-guest interaction referred to the
cyclic clathrates, however recently it is involved in biological phenomenon and is used commonly in physical chemistry. From this point of view, one can freely make use of the so-called non-covalent interactions such as Van der Waals forces, hydrogen bonding, ionic bonding and hydrophilic/hydrophobic interactions, so that a variety of functional materials with well-organized structures can be prepared. In this edition, we focus on the latest developments not only in the preparation of fundamental materials that use host-guest interactions but also on applications in the fields of biotechnology and electronic device research.
