Polymers Active in Lighting in the New Era
Replacement of light bulbs by LEDs is going on. Moreover, replacement of fluorescent lamps by LEDs has started because of advantages of LEDs such as high efficiency, long lifetime, and easyness of dimming and color rendering. Research and development of electroluminescence (EL) lighting have actively proceeded, and innovative large size surface light sources are emerging. We are at the turning point of lighting history. Energy conservation is a common issue for all humanity, and improvement in efficiency of lighting is a requirement of society. Lighting creating a comfortable atmosphere enriches people’s life. In the present edition, we introduce polymers that are key materials for lighting in the new era.
