COVER STORY Precision Polymerization:Development and Practical Application |
Recent years have witnessed great developments in precision polymerizations such as living polymerizations and stereoregular polymerizations via various mechanisms, enabling the precision synthesis of a diversity of novel architecturally-controlled polymers from various monomers. For these developments, fundamental approaches to understand the reaction are required, including creation of a novel concept for controlling the polymerization, design of catalysts or initiating systems depending on the mechanism and monomer, and analysis of the polymerization system and obtained polymers. While these precisely controlled polymers are expected to exhibit novel functions and good properties based on the controlled structures, for their practical applications, it further needs overall approaches considering what monomers, polymers, reactions, and processes should be used in terms of their performances and costs. This special issue covers developments of precision polymerizations and practical applications of the technologies and polymers. (Editors: KAMIGAITO, KINBARA, SADA, and NISHIHARA) |
