COVER STORY
Extremely Thin Polymer Films
When a material becomes thinner, it is well known that the surface and interface properties dominate the properties of the material. In particular, polymers with their relatively large spatial dimension show the “thin film effect”, which is a confinement effect from the film thickness. The thin film effect of polymers has been observed even for relatively large thickness and attracted much scientific attention. Polymer thin films have also been used for a variety of applications such as photoresists.
Analytical methods for thin films are different from those for bulk, and have advanced in recent years. In this special issue, recent topics of physics, analysis and applications of polymer thin films will be provided.
