COVER STORY
Being Active Globally
Globalization is becoming more important not only in general public but also in scientific and technological fields. However, the number of young Japanese students studying abroad decreased considerably in the past decade. How can globalization be realized in Japan under difficult conditions? In this issue, Japanese scholars of any age and position in academia and companies, who now live abroad or just returned to Japan, frankly talk about the reason and trigger for overseas stays, the merit of living and working abroad, unique experiences, struggles, and survival methods in foreign countries, and good and bad aspects of Japan, and so on. We would be very happy if this issue would give good opportunities for reconsidering globalization, and encourage overseas stints of young Japanese students and scholars.
