COVER STORY New Trends in Plastic Molding and Processing and Plastic Product Design |
Plastic products that support our daily lives need to change from mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal to customized products that suit various lifestyles and eco-friendly products. Recently, 3D printers, an additive manufacturing technology, have begun to be introduced into manufacturing because they can make complex shapes without using molds. In addition, integrated plastic-metal molding technology enables the design of parts that take advantage of the performance of each, shortening the process and bringing down costs by reducing the number of parts. Furthermore, in product design, attempts at functional design using simulation and MI technology are being actively studied. This issue focuses on plastic molding, processing, and design technology and introduces new trends in manufacturing. Editors: OKAMOTO, AYABE, SHISHIDO, and S. NISHIMURA |
