COVER STORY
Polymers for Future Automobile Technology
Since 1907, the year the first production model of a petrol-driven vehicle was set afloat by Henry Ford, automobiles have become one of the most familiar industrial products for us. In recent years, due to much attention for green and energy issues, the required performance for automobiles are changing with the increasing emphasis on the importance of sustainability. With a rapid paradigm shift in the automobile power source, where the internal-combustion engine is thought to be replaced by an electrical motor, polymer materials in body parts of automobiles will play an ever increasing important role. Against such a background, this issue will showcase the current trend of developments of polymer materials for automobiles.
