COVER STORY What Are Polymer-like Features?: Studies on Assemblies and Behaviors |
Hermann Staudinger first proposed the concept of “polymers” or “macromolecules” for viscous chemicals, though most people then believed that the viscosity arose from aggregation of low molecular weight compounds. How would he answer the question “What are polymer-like features?” Assemblies and behaviors of functional groups in polymer chains are significant toward advanced polymer functions. On the other hand, design of interactions for low molecular weight compounds could lead to functional materials through the controlled assembly of the components and cooperation of functional groups. In this issue, various research on assemblies and behaviors at molecular level is featured for studies on polymer-like features. Editors: OUCHI, IYODA, FUKUSHIMA, and H. YOSHIDA |
